Ground-breaking collaboration, community action and contributions help provide rent assistance and food donations during COVID-19
Jeff March, Chief Executive Officer at BRG Apartments, LLC, has seen first-hand the power of a team taking a company motto beyond simple words on a page. Through the efforts of his staff at BRG apartment communities throughout the Greater Cincinnati area, renters in need have received real relief during a year dominated by COVID-19.
“At the beginning of the global pandemic, when it became clear that this was not going to be either a brief or mild challenge, we spoke frankly and openly with our team members,” March explains. “We were blown away by the response. With a focus on ensuring resident housing stability, our managers and staff went above and beyond to communicate with residents and connect them with the assistance they needed to not only make their rent payments, but ensure that they had enough funds left over to feed and support their families as well. Our company motto ‘…And We Care.’ has never been better expressed than by our team’s genuine commitment to our residents.”
During the 1st five months of Covid-19, BRG Apartments halted any eviction actions, waived late fees, and did not institute any rent increases…but that was only the beginning. The non-profit organization Apartment Association Outreach, Inc. (AAO), of which BRG is an active member, recently surpassed its stretch goal of raising $200,000 to help provide relief to renters during COVID-19, and established a new goal of $250,000.
“The response to our Outreach 2020 fundraising event has been nothing short of incredible, with Bob Wahlke of Towne properties and his tireless group of volunteers helping AAO bring in more than $235,000 to date,” says March. “As a result of their efforts and collaboration with our fantastic partners, particularly the Freestore Foodbank, some of the most vulnerable members of our community have received record-breaking levels of assistance.”
BRG will continue its efforts into the holiday season, with a Home before the Holidays campaign to benefit the Fisher House, which provides high quality temporary lodging, at no charge, to families of Veterans who are undergoing inpatient or extensive outpatient treatment with the Cincinnati VA Health Care System. In addition, BRG will launch its holiday celebration in mid-December, featuring ten days of giveaways to residents totaling more than $7,000 in prizes as a way to say thank you.
As the pandemic extends into 2021, March remains committed to doing more—and urges community members to help however they can. “These are extraordinary times, and I could not be prouder of our team members, volunteers and partners who have drawn together to support our neighbors and loved ones, epitomizing our promise of ‘…And we care.’ We will get through this together and we will do so by promoting kindness and decency like never before. Let this be the legacy of Covid-19.”
